Pretti had a prior clash with ICE officers just a week earlier. According to sources and medical records reviewed by CNN, Pretti stopped his car to shout and blow a whistle while observing agents chasing what he called a family on foot; he was tackled by five officers, suffering a broken rib, but was released at the scene without charges.

 

In other words he was already known to agents for obstructing raids, his family mentioned unusual behavior like carrying a loaded gun that day—despite rarely doing so—and he'd scrubbed his social media beforehand, raising questions about possible retaliation motives amid the ongoing controversy over the shooting and federal tactics in Minneapolis.
