In a recent revelation raising fresh questions about election integrity and record-keeping in Michigan, Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini announced that his office identified 640 noncitizens who were summoned for jury duty in 2025 after self-reporting their ineligibility due to non-U.S. citizenship status. Drawn from a pool of 62,281 potential jurors, these individuals complied with the law by disclosing their status upon receiving summonses, but cross-checks against the state's Qualified Voter File uncovered 18 who had been registered to vote at some point—with actions taken to remove, challenge, or refer several cases, including those with prior voting records. Forlini, a Republican running for Secretary of State, described the findings as evidence of effective local due diligence rather than systemic failure, while noting that the Secretary of State's office had been informed and emphasizing that such discrepancies should prompt stronger safeguards like proof-of-citizenship requirements—amid ongoing debates over voter roll accuracy and noncitizen involvement in elections.
