My husband has been in EMS for over 40 years. Stats are low for someone to live after cardiac arrest, let alone recover. Especially for someone as medically fragile as McConnell.

“Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA)

Survival to hospital discharge for this age group is generally low:
Ages 75–79: Approximately 7.5% to 16%.
Ages 80–84: Drops to 5% to 8%.
Ages 85+: Further declines to 4% or lower, with some studies showing rates as low as 1.7% to 2.8% for those over 80 or 90.
30-Day Survival: One large-scale study indicated a 30-day survival rate of 6.7% for ages 70–79, 4.4% for ages 80–89, and only 2.4% for those over 90.
Even when CPR is performed, the likelihood of survival with a good neurological outcome (CPC 1–2) is notably reduced, ranging from 6% for ages 75–79 down to 1–2% for those over 90. “
