Hundreds of ICE agents were deployed to 14 major U.S. airports on Monday to assist with TSA operations amid a partial government shutdown causing severe staffing shortages and massive security line delays.
The agents, directed by border czar Tom Homan, focused on non-screening tasks like crowd control, exit monitoring, and line management to free up TSA officers, helping lines start moving more efficiently at impacted locations including Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson, JFK and LaGuardia in New York, Chicago's O'Hare, and others.
Travelers have expressed relief as wait times improved in some areas after days of hours-long backups.
