Michigan Democrats’ Hiding Corruption Behind Closed Doors
Michigan’s government is a black box, and Democrats like Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson are slamming the lid shut. The state ranks dead last in transparency, with FOIA laws exempting the governor and legislature from public records requests, a disgrace unchanged in 2025.
A 2015 study gave Michigan an F for ethics, and little has improved … if any.
Benson’s $9.3 million “Michigan Transparency Network” is a taxpayer-funded flop, blocking access to campaign finance data and lobbyist records. Critics call it “obfuscation,” not transparency, with Democrats like Sen. Jeremy Moss admitting it’s a mess. Meanwhile, Whitmer’s allies at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) face allegations of funneling millions to cronies. A 2024 ethics complaint accuses her appointees of steering $175 million to connected organizations, with no accountability.
