UPenn is stripping swimmer Lia Thomas of titles and revising women’s swim records, after a Department of Education investigation—part of the Trump-era push—found the university violated Title IX by allowing a biological male to compete in women’s sports.
UPenn will also issue apologies to female swimmers, adopt biology-based definitions of gender, and ban biological males from female teams and facilities.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon praised the move as a “restoration” of fairness in women’s athletics.
