Tyler James Robinson, 22, has been formally charged in Utah with seven counts in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. These charges include aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. Prosecutors are also seeking the death penalty. 

Key Revelations from the Texts

• Robinson allegedly left a note under his keyboard that said: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”  
• After that, a message to his roommate (and romantic partner) where he confessed: “I am, I’m sorry.” when asked if he was the shooter.  
• On motive: he said “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.” This suggests he felt Kirk’s rhetoric was hateful and beyond compromise.  
• Planning period: the messages suggest Robinson had been planning the shooting “a bit over a week” before carrying it out.  
• Concerns about leaving evidence: he discussed how he hid the rifle, worries about prints, hiding the gun wrapped in a towel, worries about how to explain losing the rifle to his father.  
• He also asked the roommate to “delete this exchange” and told them not to talk to the media, and to consult a lawyer if questioned by police. 

The FBI is investigating at least seven social media accounts that may have shown foreknowledge of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Posts dating back over a month before the killing mentioned the exact date of the shooting (September 10) and even fantasized about Kirk’s death. Some accounts deleted their posts after the incident; one wrote, “WE F***ING DID IT” minutes after his death. The probe includes ties to trans activist circles and possibly to the shooter’s roommate.
